오늘은 아래에서 언급했었던 국내 Hanna instrument의 답변 및 용준아빠님의 실측 데이터를 소개해 드리고자 합니다.

우선 국내의 Hanna Instrument에 문의하여 해수에서 사용이 가능한지 물어보았습니다.
이에 대한 답변은

희석 및 전처리 과정을 거쳐 응용하여 사용될수 있으나
재현성의 신뢰도는 보장할 수 없습니다.

즉 사용자체는 가능하지만 신뢰성을 보장할 수는 없다는 이야기입니다.
(We can use this colorimeter but not reliable)

관련하여 용준아빠님께서 가지고 계신 장비를 가지고 실험을 해주셨습니다. 이자리를 빌어 용준아빠님께 다시 한 번 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.

다음은 용준아빠님께서 실험을 진행하신 내용을 발췌한 것입니다. 참고하시기 바랍니다.

지난 번 칼륨테스트와 관련한 내용을 다음과 같이 테스트하였습니다.

먼저, Hanna HI 83200-2008으로 측정하였으며, 기존 단일 측정기기인 칼륨 Colorimeter(HI 93750)와는 측정시약을 비롯하여 모든 것이 동일하나, light source와 정밀도가 약간 다릅니다.

Typical EMC : ±0.5 mg/L

Light Source : Tungsten lamp with narrow band interference filter @ 610 nm

Method Adaptation of the Turbidimetric Tetraphenylborate method. The reaction between

Potassium and reagents causes turbidity in the sample.

하지만, 측정에 영향을 주는 간섭물질에 대한 부분도 2가지 장비 모두 동일하며, 시약도 동일한 것을 사용하므로,

다음 표와 같이 희석할 경우에는 제품 매뉴얼상으로는 분석에 큰 문제가 없음을 알 수 있습니다

즉, 분석에서는 1일 동안 충분히 녹인 34ppt KZ 해수염을 이용하여 1/10희석액, 1/5희석액 및 1/3희석액 3종류를 이용하였으며, 측정의 신뢰성 확보하기 위해 30분 간격으로 각 3회씩 측정하였는데,

1차 테스트(20-200ppm 테스트)

- 1/10희석액 : out of range(200ppm 이상)

- 1/5희석액 : 196ppm

- 1/3희석액 : 150ppm

 

2차 테스트(20-200ppm 테스트)

- 1/10희석액 : out of range(200ppm 이상)

* 테스트 종료

* 매뉴얼상의 모든 간섭물질에 대한 검토가 이루어졌는데도 결과는 전혀 엉뚱한 수치만 보여주네요...

* 제가 예전에 hanna 기술지원부서에 문의한 결과는 사용할 수 없다는 것이었고, Reefcentral에서도 seawater와 saltwater는 전혀 다른 것으로 측정할 수 없다는 것이 결론이었습니다.

스펙을 보셔서 아시겠지만 이 colorimeter는 해수에서 사용할 수 없습니다.

The meter will work however you will need to do a dilution on your saltwater to bring it into the meters range. This is as mentioned above in my previous post.

It was also mentioned, while it does work they have had some complaints about the meters repeatability. This has to do with the method of measurement this meter uses.

The Dazs EX Power Fan aquarium cooling is such a simple and practical device, it’s a wonder why something like it hasn’t yet been brought to the aquarium market. While perusing the charming Tropicals and Marines store in West London, we stumbled upon this unique aquarium cooling fan which was operating to discreetly cool a reef aquarium using high powered lighting. This slim profile DC fan uses a centrifugal design to blow a respectable quantity of air from an adjustable outlet as the EX Power Fan hangs nice and neatly on the edge of the aquarium glass. Although this unit was installed on a trimless aquarium, the bracketing on the hanger will adjust to accommodate the aquarium trim or brace that is over an inch wide. The Dazs EX Power Fan comes in a small or large size and the small unit we spied at Tropicals and Marines was selling for just under fifteen quid (that’s £15 or roughly $22). Compared to the repurposed computer fans of the Tunze Aquawind, the Dazs EX Power Fan is much less expensive or obtrusive, and probably more practical to use for cooling smaller nano reef tanks. Although we’ve never heard of the aquarium product manufacturer Dazs, as with other products that Reef Builders has introduced to the American reefing audience, we expect that one of our drygood vending sponsors will soon have these on pre-order well in time to protect your aquarium from the looming summer heat. Dazs에서 나온 팬입니다. 기존의 컴퓨터 파워에 들어가는 팬과 유사하나 유리 옆에 설치를 하고 바람이 윗쪽으로 나오는 DC팬입니다. 작은 사이즈가 22불 정도 한다고 하네요. 이쁜 디자인입니다만 그래도 역시 컴퓨터팬을 이용한 것이 효율이나 비용면에서 더 유리하지 않을까 생각합니다.

So, what IS the EcoSmart Driver?

The EcoSmart driver is an upgrade for our existing Wireless Wave Driver (WWD) and will be included on all new EcoTech pumps. This driver has a new and improved wireless range, new “EcoSmart” wave modes, Auto Tune mode, and much much more.

With the introduction of the new EcoSmart driver to the market, we will be offering a wireless version of the MP10 which gives the discerning aquarist much more control over their small or medium size reef aquarium.

In addition to exciting new modes such as Wave Auto Tune and the EcoSmart multi pump modes, the wireless range of the EcoSmart wirelessly enabled drivers has been significantly increased. This allows for the controllers of slave pumps to be located further from sight or even in separate locations.

EcoSmart Tidal Swell Mode
In this EcoSmart mode water is circulated to create a harmonic balance in your aquarium reminiscent of the changing flow conditions that would be found in nature. Over the course of several hours, the flow pattern will go from very chaotic with an emphasis on left to right flow direction to an emphasis on right to left flow direction, all the while experiencing calm period in between and followed by a great surge of flow at the very end of the cycle. Adjusting the dial changes the maximum speed achieved at any time during this mode. Slave pumps should be positioned opposite the master and on the back of the tank to take full advantage of the EcoSmart modes.

EcoSmart Nutrient Transport Mode
In this EcoSmart mode, water is circulated in a two phase program consisting of wave motion to stir up detritus and surging motion to move the detritus into your overflow where it can be skimmed out. This effect promotes maximum health and nutrient export, as well as increased growth for sensitive corals such as SPS. Adjusting the dial changes the maximum speed achieved at any time during this mode. Slave pumps should be positioned opposite the master and on the back of the tank to take full advantage of the EcoSmart modes.

Classic Reef-Crest and Lagoonal Random Modes
In random mode you can toggle between two different modes, Reef-Crest and Lagoonal. When a pump is in Lagoonal Random Mode, the dial is used to set the maximum operational speed, and the driver will automatically randomize the pumps output to simulate either a high (Reef-Crest) or low (Lagoonal) energy reef environment. If this pump is a master, the associated slave pumps will replicate the master in sync or anti-sync modes.

昨日少し時間があったので、ＥｃｏＳｍａｒｔのフルマニュアルに目を通しました。で、一つの結論は、2台以上Ｖｏｒｔｅｃｈを所有していないと、コントローラをアップグレードする価値は非常に小さいってことです。理由は単純、新機能のＴＳＭ(Tidal Swell Mode)とＮＴＭ(Nutrient Transport Mode)は複数台のＶｏｒｔｅｃｈの使用を想定しているから。特にＮＴＭはそうみたい。マニュアルの図を見ても、複数個所に付けられたＶｏｒｔｅｃｈによりそれぞれ理想の波を起こしています。
バッテリーバックアップを接続している人は複数台のＶｏｒｔｅｃｈを使用している可能性が高いですし、夜間モードや餌食モードは旧型にもオプションは違えど機能はありますし。1台だけで使用するなら、私なら旧型をお勧めします。値段も安いですしね。

Tropic Marin did something completely different when it launched their Bio Actif system, and more specifically when they launched their new salt. They added something that is usually left out in most salt. Organic Compounds. A book by Sorokin on Coral Reef Ecology states on page 66 that content of reef water in organic C is around 1 to 3 ppm. If the natural reefs of the world have a range of organics why wouldn’t we put them in our  man-made glass reef houses?

Organic compounds that you might be familiar with could include Vodka, vinegar, sugar or vitamin C. We don’t know what specific organic compound is being added to the Bio Actif salt, but we would assume its one of the above. The salt creates more hydrophobic compounds and bacteria then traditional salts which increases the load of your protein skimmer. You shouldn’t be using this salt without a decent protein skimmer. The reaction to the skimmer was so impressive in fact its like pouring  Sodium lauryl sulfate into running tap water. Not to that extent but hopefully you’ve gotten the point. Run a good protein skimmer. To expand, good here refers to a efficient bubble making device with a needle-wheel, mesh-wheel, etc.

It is quite popular to go to reef shows and browse the livestock that is on display specifically with corals. Most people use several bags or might even use Rubbermaid type containers to put their livestock in as they race home ready to put it in their quarantine tank. But the Coral Frag caddy takes a different approach and allows you to put more then one frag in a “coral bucket”. The best part of all this is there are multiple trays in the bucket which allow you to put a bunch of corals including different sized ones as all the holes are not the same diameter.
